Five NFL teams where Philip Rivers could land

The Los Angeles Chargers parted ways with veteran quarterback Philip Rivers on Monday. Due to the fact Rivers has moved his family from San Diego to Florida, makes one think he could be signing with one of the NFL’s three Florida franchises (the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars or Tampa Bay Buccaneers). The Rivers family move was obviously not cheap. Not only was the move from one coast of the United States to the other, but one must realize Philip and his wife Tiffany have nine children.
In moving from the west coast to the east coast, you can almost eliminate all of the teams west of Dallas as possible destinations for Philip Rivers to be in 2020. Here are the five most logical destinations for Rivers this season.
5) Indianapolis Colts. Rivers developed a great relationship with Frank Reich, while he was the Chargers quarterbacks coach and offensive co-ordinator from 2013 to 2015. Now the Colts would have to decide if bringing Rivers in would be an upgrade to Jacoby Brissett, who made significant strides as the Colts quarterback in 2019.
4) Carolina Panthers. Carolina obviously has a decision to make at quarterback in the offseason, and that is whether or not to keep Cam Newton. If the Panthers decide to move on from Newton, Rivers could be an excellent short term mentor for rising quarterback Kyle Allen.
3) Jacksonville Jaguars. The 2019 season was bitterly disappointing for the Jaguars as the team went 6-10 after reaching the 2018 AFC Championship. Quarterback may not have been the problem as Gardner Minshew II was stable at the helm when Nick Foles suffered his early season collarbone injury. The Jaguars might decide to go with Rivers over Foles in a backup role over the next couple of years.
2) Miami Dolphins. There is no doubt that Rivers would be an upgrade to Ryan Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen at quarterback. However one needs to wonder is if Rivers is looking to join a franchise that is in the process of rebuilding. Maybe not. Still, the scenery of Miami is spectacular, and the Dolphins are close to home.
1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Clearly this is the most likely destination for Rivers. With Tampa Bay being a bit lukewarm in bringing back Jameis Winston (free agent led the NFL with 30 interceptions in 2019), Rivers would be an excellent fit for the Buccaneers. In this pass happy offense, Rivers has Pro Bowl receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans to target all season long.
