We are now heading into week seven of the 2020 National Football League season. To date, there have been some outstanding performances, and several surprises. Here are five players who have surprised the pundits the most this season.
5) Keelan Cole–Jacksonville Jaguars–There is no doubt that the Jacksonville Jaguars have struggled this season as they have a record of one win and five losses. However, Jaguars wide receiver Keelan Cole of Louisville, Kentucky has put together a solid season to date. He has had 27 catches for 362 yards and three touchdowns, and evolved into Jacksonville’s number one wideout option for Gardner Minshew II.
4) Justin Herbert–Los Angeles Chargers–After Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor was accidentally poked in the wrong place by a Chargers team physician, Justin Herbert became the Chargers stater and has not looked back. Herbert has had 97 completions in 141 attempts for 1195 yards, nine touchdown passes, and three interceptions.
3) Myles Gaskin–Miami Dolphins–The 23-year-old native of Lynnwood, Washington has given the Dolphins an unexpected boost in their ground game this year. He has 82 rushes for 340 yards and another 27 catches for 182 yards. The Dolphins meanwhile are at 3-3, and could make some noise in the AFC East.
2) James Robinson–Jacksonville Jaguars–After the Jaguars waived Leonard Fournette on August 31, questions arose who would be the leader in the Jacksonville backfield. Well, rookie James Robinson of Rockford, Illinois is your answer. So far to date, Robinson has been brilliant. He has had 85 rushes for 362 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with 23 catches and 207 yards and another major score.
1) Chase Claypool–Pittsburgh Steelers–There is no doubt that the receiver class was deep in the 2020 National Football League Draft. However, the best receiver so far was not taken in the first round. Chase Claypool of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada was only the 11th wide receiver selected, and has emerged as not only one of the best rookie receivers, but one of the best receivers in all of football. So far MapleTron has been prolific. He has caught 17 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns, to go along with two rushing touchdowns. Claypool’s remarkable chemistry with Ben Roethlisberger is a major reason why the Steelers are unbeaten at 5-0.
