Five biggest upsets over first three days of Wimbledon 2021
July 1, 2021

The biggest story of Wimbledon 2021 so far has been the rain. There simply has been a lot of it, and as a result, the courts at the All England Club have been downright slippery. Among the players who have had to withdraw are Serena Williams, Adrian Mannarino, Pablo Andujar, and Jiri Vesely. Here are five of the most notable upsets of the 2021 Wimbledon over the first three days where the match has seen its completion without a withdrawal.
5) Sloane Stephens over Petra Kvitova–This was an upset due to ranking only. Stephens was 73rd even though she has won the United States Open in the past, while Kvitova was 10th. Stephens won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
4) Kaja Juvan over Belinda Bencic–This has already been a huge year in Slovenian tennis as Tamara Zidansek reached the semifinals of the French Open. On Wednesday, Kaja Juvan continued that trend with an impressive upset over ninth-seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in the first round, 6-3, 6-3.
3) Alize Cornet over Bianca Andreescu–Despite being ranked fifth, Canadian Bianca Andreescu was extremely unimpressive in her loss to Alize Cornet of France in the first round on Wednesday. Cornet benefited by the fact Andreescu had 34 unforced errors, and won easily 6-2, 6-1.

2) Madison Brengle over Sofia Kenin–We found out something from Wimbledon and that is Sofia Kenin appears not to be a very good player without her father as her coach. Kenin, who was the fourth seed, lost 6-2, 6-4 to Madison Brengle of the United States in an all-American battle, and then withdrew from the Olympic Games thereafter.
1)Frances Tiafoe over Stefanos Tsitsipas–Seeded third and generating momentum after his French Open final, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece surprisingly lost his first round match to American Frances Tiafoe, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. It has been a tough week for Greek sport, as in men’s basketball, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is out of the Eastern Conference Final against the Atlanta Hawks with a knee injury.
