Eastern Conference’s two struggling teams battle in Washington
December 20, 2024
Two of the three worst teams in the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference are playing in Washington tonight as the Washington Wizards are hosting the Charlotte Hornets at Capital One Arena in the American capital city of Washington, D.C. The Wizards have the worst record in the league at three wins and 21 losses, while the Hornets have the third worst record in the Eastern Conference at seven wins and 19 losses. The only team between the Hornets and Wizards are the lowly Toronto Raptors at seven wins and 20 losses.
We have discussed a lot about the Hornets injuries this season. They include Grant Williams (torn anterior cruciate ligament), Tre Mann (back), Nick Richards (rib), and now small forward Brandon Miller of Antioch, Tennessee is out with a sprained ankle. A major reason why the Hornets won their only game in their last 10 is because Miller scored 26 points in a 113-109 win over the Indiana Pacers. The Hornets won as an 11.5 point underdog.
The Hornets are led by point guard LaMelo Ball of Anaheim, California, who is averaging 30.2 points per game. With Ball out of the lineup himself until recently with a strained calf, Charlotte went 1-6 in that stretch.
On Thursday, the Hornets actually find themselves as a favourite for only the second time this season. They are in fact a four point favourite in Washington. The only other time the Hornets were favoured was on October 30 when they beat the Toronto Raptors 138-133. Even though Charlotte won, they did not cover the spread as they were a 6.5 point favourite.
The Wizards have only won once in their last 20 games. That was on December 7 when they upset the Denver Nuggets 122-113. Washington’s only other two wins came against Atlanta. They beat the Hawks 121-119 on October 28 and 133-120 on October 30.
