According to Nick Shook of nfl.com on Friday, the Miami Dolphins are trading defensive end Charles Harris of Kansas City, Missouri to the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2021 National Football League Draft. Harris was previously a first-round draft pick of the Dolphins as he was taken 22nd overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Last season in Miami, Harris played in 14 games for Miami and started five contests. He had half a sack, 23 combined tackles (11 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss and six quarterback hits. Harris had career highs in combined tackles and assisted tackles.
For Harris’s career, he has played in 41 games and started eight. He has two pass deflections, one fumble recovery, 3.5 sacks, 61 combined tackles (34 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss and 23 quarterback hits.
Harris’s lone fumble recovery in the NFL came on November 5, 2017. It came in a 27-24 Dolphins loss to the Oakland Raiders.
At the National Collegiate Athletic Association level, Harris had three strong seasons with the University of Missouri Tigers. While having a chance to play university football in his home state, Harris had 136 tackles (80 solo tackles and 56 assisted tackles) in three seasons from 2014 to 2016. A two-time Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference player, Harris also had 34.5 tackles for a loss, 18 sacks, five pass deflections, one fumble recovery and five forced fumbles in 35 games.
A multi-sport athlete in high school, Harris also played basketball and was a boxer. He will be counted on to bring his toughness he has learned along the way to a Falcons team that might find it challenging to do some damage this year in the NFC South.
