Day 2 Olympic Preview – Aussies In Action Today 25/7

The sport of swimming is the headliner on Sunday as there are four Australian medal possibilities in the pool.

Swimming–Finals start at @11:30 AM AEST

In an exciting day in the pool, Brendon Smith of Melbourne will be leading Australia’s hopes. In the fourth heat in the men’s 400-metre individual medley on Saturday, Smith set an Oceanian record with a time of 4:09.26. Michael Phelps’ world record of 4:03.84 is out of grasp for Smith, but he will be a gold medal contender in lane four in the first swimming final of the Olympic Games at 11:30 a.m.

There is also a strong gold medal chance in the women’s 4×100 metre freestyle relay (12:45 p.m.), where Australia is the reigning Olympic champ and world champ. They will be in lane 4 on Sunday, but between Canada and the Netherlands, and not the United States, who only had the fifth-fastest time in the heats.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 400-metre freestyle (11:52 a.m.), there are two Australians in the final. Jack McLoughlin of South Brisbane, the 2018 Pan Pacific champion, is in lane two, and Australian Olympic Swimming Trials champion Elijah Winnington of Gold Coast is in lane six. Both McLoughlin and Winnington had the exact same time in the heats on Saturday at 3:45.20.

Skateboarding–Men’s Street @ 1:25 P.M. AEST

There is going to be great excitement in Japan on Sunday, as the very first Olympic champion in skateboarding will be determined. There is an Australian in the mix. Shane O’Neill of Melbourne is the 2016 world street skateboarding champion.

Men’s Basketball–Australia vs. Nigeria @ 6:30 P.M. AEST

Australia will begin their 2021 Olympic men’s basketball schedule on Sunday when they face Nigeria. This game is highly anticipated because both squads upset the United States in exhibition play leading up to the tournament.
