Day 15 Olympic Preview – Aussies in action 8/7

On the final full day of Olympic competition at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, here is what to expect.

Golf–Women’s Final Round–Starting @ 6:30 AM AEST

After the third round of the Olympic women’s golf tournament, Hannah Green of Perth is in a four-way tie for the bronze medal alongside Lydia Ko of New Zealand, Emily Kristine Pedersen of Denmark, and Mone Inami of Japan. All four are in double-digits under par at -10. Green will tee off at 9:06 AM AEST.

Cycling–Men’s Madison @ 5:55 PM AEST

Leigh Howard of Geelong will be teaming up with Kelland O’Brien of Melbourne in the men’s madison. Even though O’Brien has never medalled in the madison before in a major international event, Howard has won four madison medals at the World Championships. Howard and O’Brien were also part of the Australian team that won the Olympic bronze medal in the men’s team pursuit at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

Men’s Basketball–Bronze Medal Game–Australia vs. Slovenia @9PM AEST

Even though Australia has won five Olympic medals in women’s basketball, the Boomers have never won an Olympic medal in men’s basketball. For the Aussies to reach the podium, they will need to find a way to contain Slovenia’s superstar Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. This could be a tall order indeed as Doncic has been outright sensational in every facet imaginable. Patty Mills of the San Antonio Spurs has been Australia’s leading scorer in four of Australia’s five games so far.

Other Aussies in action:
  • Women’s Marathon (Sinead Diver, Lisa Weightman, Ellie Pashley) @7AM
  • Artistic Swimming (Team Free Routine) 8:30 PM
  • Women’s High Jump (Nicola McDermott & Eleanor Patterson) @8:35 PM
  • Men’s 1500 Metres (Oliver Hoare & Stewart McSewyn) @ 9:40 PM
