Day 13 Olympic Preview – Aussies in action 8/5

Australia will be looking to build on their medal count of 36 medals, the most since winning 46 medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Here is what you need to expect from Day 13.
Athletics–Men’s Decathlon Starting @ 10am AEST
The final five events go in the decathlon with the men’s 110 metre hurdles, discus and pole vault in the morning session, and the javelin and men’s 1500 metres in the evening session. Ashley Moloney is in medal contention, as he is in second place after five events. On Wednesday, Moloney had the highest jump of 2.11 metres, and the fastest 400 metre time of 46.29 seconds.
Men’s Basketball & Women’s Football–Australia vs. United States (2:15 pm AEST in men’s basketball & 6pm AEST in women’s soccer)
Australia will be in tough against the American superpowers on Thursday. A win will definitely be a challenge as the Boomers and Matildas are the heavy underdogs in both games. However a win by either team will make the Australian victory one of the biggest stories of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Field Hockey–Men’s Gold Medal Game @ 8 pm AEST
Australia is in their fifth gold medal game in men’s field hockey all-time at the Olympic Games. However despite winning nine Olympic medals all-time in field hockey, Australia has only won gold once and that took place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In the Olympic men’s field hockey tournament gold medal game, Australia will be facing Belgium for gold. The Aussies are undefeated in the tournament so far, and beat Germany 3-1 in the semifinals. Blake Govers of Wollongong is second in the tournament to date with seven goals. The issue for the Aussies will be able to contain Belgian star Alexander Hendrickx, who has a remarkable 14 goals.
