According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Cowboys have signed offensive tackle Cameron Erving of Moultrie, Georgia to a one year contract on Wednesday. The terms of the contract were not disclosed. At 6’5″, 315 pounds, it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys find a spot on their offensive line for Erving in 2020 to protect quarterback Dak Prescott.
Erving will be joining his third National Football League franchise. He previously played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns (2015 and 2016) and three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (2017 to 2019).
In 2019, Erving played in 13 games for the Chiefs and started eight of them. He also got on the football field for a single play in Super Bowl LIV in February, as the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. It was only the Chiefs’ second Super Bowl title in franchise history and first since 1969 (Super Bowl IV) when they beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans.
This past season, Erving played mostly behind offensive tackle Eric Fisher, the first overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. However, when Fisher was recovering from a sports hernia injury, Erving had the chance to start eight games for the Chiefs.
While with the Browns, Erving had two fumble recoveries. The first fumble recovery came in his rookie season, during a 30-13 Cleveland loss to the Seattle Seahawks on December 20, 2015. The second fumble recovery came in a 27-24 Cleveland overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 1, 2017.
In addition to winning a Super Bowl, Erving won a Bowl Championship Series title with the Florida State Seminoles in 2014. The Seminoles beat the University the Auburn Tigers 34-31 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Also with the Seminoles, Erving was a First-Team All-American in 2013.
