According to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports on Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive tackle Lineal Joseph to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. Under the terms of the contract, Joseph could earn up to $4 million.
Joseph is joining his sixth National Football League franchise. He previously played four seasons with the New York Giants from 2010 to 2013, six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings from 2014 to 2019, two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020 and 2021, one season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, and one season with the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
In seven games this past season for the Bills, Joseph had 12 combined tackles (seven solo tackles and five assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, and one sack. The quarterback hit came in a 24-22 Bills win over the Los Angeles Chargers on December 23.
Back in 2014, Joseph was shot in the calf while at a nightclub. The shooting came during the NFL preseason while he played for the Minnesota Vikings according to bangedupbills.com. Even though Joseph played an entire schedule, he was limited in his overall play.
In 2016 and 2017, Joseph was selected to the Pro Bowl with the Vikings. In those two seasons, he had a combined total of 145 tackles (77 solo tackles and 68 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, 27 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 7.5 sacks. Also during his time in Minnesota, Joseph was coached by Mike Zimmer of Peoria, Illinois. Zimmer is the current defensive coordinator of the Cowboys. Zimmer takes over from Dan Quinn, who is the new head coach of the Washington Commanders.Â
