Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence injured in practice

According to the Associated Press on Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence of Aiken, South Carolina will be out six to eight weeks after breaking his foot in practice. The break of Lawrence’s fifth metatarsal required surgery.
The injury occurred during a simple, routine pass rush according to Jane Slater of the NFL Network and Nick Shook of nfl.com. The Cowboys were in the middle of their preparations for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Lawrence had five combined tackles (four solo tackles and one assisted tackle), along with one forced fumble in the Cowboys’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In a game which was also the National Football League season opener on September 9, the Cowboys lost a tight battle to the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers 31-29.Â
Lawrence has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Cowboys, and went to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018. In 97 games, Lawrence has had 305 combined tackles (194 solo tackles and 111 assisted tackles), one safety, 93 quarterback hits, 69 tackles for a loss, one interception for 13 yards, six pass deflections, 16 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries for 10 yards, and 45.5 sacks.
The Cowboys are also expected to be missing defensive end Randy Gregory of Jacksonville, FL, on Sunday. Gregory is out with coronavirus. There have been 3,910,127 cases of coronavirus in the state of Texas, with 61,670 deaths. Â Only California at 4,531,289 cases have had more cases than Texas. There are also 352,312 active cases of coronavirus in Texas, and 3,496,145 people from the state have recovered. While Gregory is expected to be out, Cowboys guard Zack Martin is expected to be reactivated after missing the season opener due to coronavirus.
