Colts sign fullback Roosevelt Nix from the Steelers
April 14, 2020

The Indianapolis Colts have signed fullback Roosevelt Nix to a one year contract on Saturday according to Adam Wells of Bleacher Report. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Nix had played the last five seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers. A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, he played 60 games with the Steelers from 2015 to 2019. In that time, Nix was used sparingly when it came to putting his hands on the football as he had 12 catches for 69 yards and one touchdown as well as four rushes for four yards and one touchdown.
Nix caught his only touchdown pass on December 10, 2017 in a dramatic 39-38 Steelers win over the Ravens. Nix’s catch was for only one yard and came from Ben Roethlisberger at 2:45 of the fourth quarter which put the Steelers within two points of the Ravens at the time. There is no doubt that the Steelers and Ravens have delivered one of the greatest divisional rivalries in the NFL in recent memory.
Then on Christmas Day in 2017, Nix recorded his first career rushing touchdown. This was also for one yard and came in a 34-6 Steelers win over the Houston Texans.
Nix was also a Pro Bowl fullback for the Steelers in 2017. However the reason why Nix was chosen was not because of his running ability, receiving ability or the fact he had two touchdowns. That year he was chosen because of the fact he was an excellent blocker and provided initial running room for Le’Veon Bell, who led the NFL in rushing yards that season with 1291 yards.
The Colts will be hoping Nix provides running back Marlon Mack of Sarasota, Florida enough running room in 2020. Last season Mack had 247 rushing attempts for 1091 yards and eight touchdowns. It should be noted that the Colts did not even have a fullback on their roster. It should be interesting to see how stronger Mack is offensively when Indianapolis puts Nix on the field.
