Clippers avoid embarrassment in win over Mavericks
April 30, 2024
As there has been one full week of the 2024 NBA playoffs to date, one intriguing storyline has been just how competitive the series between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks has become. Of the eight first round series, the Clippers and Mavericks are one of only two series that is even at two games apiece. (The other is the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers).
What we saw on Sunday in game four in Dallas was rather fascinating. The Clippers stormed out to a gigantic 31-point lead (55-24) with five minutes and 43 seconds left in the first half. Then we saw a magnificent 81-49 run by the Mavericks, as they took a 105-104 lead with two minutes and 15 seconds left in the game. However, the Clippers did not allow this game to be remembered and defined as a historical comeback. The Clippers were clutch down the stretch and in the process outscored the Mavericks 12-6 en route to a 116-111 victory.
The Clippers came through with the win despite the fact that their star player Kawhi Leonard was out with a knee injury. Los Angeles was led by James Harden and Paul George, who each had 33 points. Harden, the Clippers star guard from Los Angeles, made 12 of 17 field goals, all five free throws, and four of five three-point shots, along with seven assists, six rebounds, one blocked shot, and one steal. George of Palmdale, California, made 11 of 19 field goals, seven of 10 three point shots, four of seven free throws, and had eight assists, six rebounds, four steals and one blocked shot.
