Chipping Norton Stakes: What The Jockeys Said
March 1, 2020

It was a G1 double for the Kiwi raiders as Te Akau Shark took out the Chipping Norton Stakes in impressive fashion.
Opie Bosson (Te Akau Shark – 1st)
“He’s got stronger this time in. He’s just so laid back about things too. He doesn’t know how good he is. He is untapped still.”
“When they quickened up they just left him a bit flat-footed but once he balances up he just keeps grinding through those gears. It’s great, it gives you a buzz and it’s great for the racing too. There’s plenty more to come.”
James McDonald (Verry Elleegant – 2nd)
“I wish these Kiwis would go home! Ran really well, gallant in defeat, but beaten by a better horse on the day.”
Brenton Avdulla (Fierce Impact – 3rd) – Our Tip
“He went terrific. Had a perfect run but the winner was too good. He’s probably looking for a mile-and-a-quarter.”
Hugh Bowman (Avilius – 4th)
“He ran well. He was no match for the winner but he’s on track to be competitive in Group Ones through the Carnival.”
Tommy Berry (Happy Clapper – 5th)
“He was game again. Without cover he wants to go a little bit keen; he’s a very competitive horse. Maybe stepping out to 2000m where he can have his own way in front might be his go again.”
Jason Collett (Life Less Ordinary – 6th)
“Great run.”
Ben Melham (Homesman – 7th)
“He ran well first up, I think he’ll improve off the run. 2000m is his trip.”
Blake Shinn (Dreamforce – 8th)
“He was disappointing. Took control in front, dictated, but when I needed him to extend he was flat.”
Sam Clipperton (Angel Of Truth – 9th)
“I thought he ran well. He was beaten for speed early so I went to Plan B and went back. He settled nicely and I thought he hit the line well for a stayer so he’s on track.”
Glyn Schofield (Djukon – 10th)
“He paraded a little bit fresh. He’s a horse that probably wants another half a lap but he certainly ran well.”
Tim Clark (Carif – 11th)
“There was nothing wrong with that return at Weight-For-Age. He’ll improve as the distances get longer.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Danceteria – 12th)
“He was a little outpaced when the race was developing at the 600m but he stayed on well and was good through the line – he’s a horse looking for 2000m.”
Josh Parr (Come Play With Me – 13th)
“He travelled well in the run but they just outsprinted him when they went. He finished off strong, he just needs more distance.”
