Chiefs Vs Texans Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan
September 10, 2020
It may not look quite as anyone expected, but the NFL is back as the Chiefs and the Texans raise the curtain on the 2020 NFL season.Â
It has become a tradition for the Super Bowl winners to kick off the season, and while it may only be at 22% of capacity due to the pandemic, the fans will give them a massive welcome in their first game since the Super Bowl triumph. Arrowhead is a tough place to go and it will still be louder than many stadiums when they are full.Â
We have the two highest paid players in NFL history going up against each other in what should be a high scoring start to the season.Â

A bit too soon for Edwards-Helaire
Patrick Mahomes has perhaps had the greatest start to a career of any player in NFL history. A Super Bowl and MVP and becoming the sport’s first half a billion dollar player. But he has his sights on much more and with this electric Chiefs offence, he has every chance of making it back to back titles.Â
These two teams met on the way to that Super Bowl and after a sluggish start, Kansas City pulled off a huge comeback before running out 20 point winners. Since then the Texans have probably gone backwards while the Chiefs have continued to improve. Clyde Edwards-Helair will probably be the biggest difference on offence and the versatile running back should slot into the system perfectly. I’d be wary of expecting too much early though, as they are likely to ease him into NFL action, but he will be a huge playmaker when he is on the field. It is Darrel Williams that could well lead the Chiefs early in the season with his experience on the team. At 3.5 to score a touchdown any time, he could have a lot of value. If they get up early as I would expect, they should turn to the run game and Williams could be the big beneficiary.Â
It’s Will Fuller time
It wasn’t exactly the offseason that many Texans fans were expecting. Locking Deshaun Watson up for the foreseeable future is excellent, but losing arguably their best player in DeAndre Hopkins certainly was not. David Johnson came the other way in a trade with the Cardinals and will take over running back duties. Carlos Hyde, who had over 1000 yards last season, also headed out the door so the Texans offence should look very different.Â
Will Fuller has the biggest opportunity following Hopkins departure. His talent has never been in doubt, but he has struggled to stay on the field. He will become Watson’s main target and in a game that Houston are likely to be playing from behind, he should see a lot of targets. Like with Williams on the Chiefs, he has every chance to get off the mark in game one and 2.88 for a touchdown is generous. He has made so many big plays in his short career and he will need to here if they have any chance of keeping up with Kansas City.Â

Chiefs just too strong
Andy Reid finally got off the mark with his first Super Bowl last season and he will be hungry for more. The defence still has some questions but the offence with Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Edwards-Helair has the potential to be unstoppable.Â
The lack of preseason is likely to have more of an effect on defences. While offences could suffer a little, they can speed things up and play on any confusion the opposition may have. No team plays faster than the Chiefs and that could be a nightmare for the Texans’ ageing defence.Â
Nine points is a big spread, but in this homecoming game I expect Kansas City to be fired up. They can score points so quickly and things could get out of hand fast. Back them to win, and to win it big.Â
