Chiefs offensive lineman Eric Fisher out of Super Bowl with torn Achilles
January 27, 2021

According to Jordan Dajani and Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports on Monday, Kansas City Chiefs star offensive lineman Eric Fisher of Rochester, Michigan will miss the Super Bowl after tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2021 AFC Championship Game on Sunday. Fisher suffered the injury while blocking a Buffalo Bills defender who was trying to get to Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs won the game 38-24.
The loss of Fisher could be gigantic for the Chiefs in their quest to defend their Super Bowl title. Quite simply, Fisher is a major part of the Kansas City offense, and is a major reason why Mahomes has had so much time in making decisions on the field.
Fisher was initially the Chiefs first round draft pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. He began his career as a right tackle, and then moved over to left tackle as his primary position ever since 2014.

This past season, Fisher caught his first National Football League touchdown in his career. It was a two-yard catch from Mahomes in a 34-20 Chiefs win in Baltimore on September 28. At the time, it was a huge statement win for the Chiefs, as Kansas City and the Baltimore Ravens headed into the game undefeated at two wins and zero losses. The Chiefs and the Ravens were both contenders to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this season. Baltimore reached the AFC Divisional Playoff Game before losing 17-3 to the Bills.
The Chiefs also have offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz of Pacific Palisades, California on injury reserve with a back injury. Another Chiefs offensive lineman, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Quebec, decided to sit out this season to help a medical care facility in Quebec that had been decimated by coronavirus. The Chiefs play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on February 7.
