Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker goes on injury reserve with knee injury
November 16, 2024
According to Eric Edholm of nfl.com, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker of Decatur, Georgia will miss the next three to four weeks with a meniscus injury in his left knee. It should be noted that Butker is having the surgery on his non-kicking leg. The injury comes as the Chiefs are playing the Buffalo Bills in an elite AFC showdown on Sunday. The Chiefs enter the game as the only team in the NFL undefeated (nine wind and zero losses), while the Bills lead the AFC East at eight wins and two losses.
Butker, who is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, has made 18 of 20 field goals, and 21 of 22 converts this season. For his career, he has made 215 of 241 field goals, and 330 of 349 converts.
The most notable field goal Butker has made this season came in week two. He successfully kicked a 52 yard field goal in a 26-25 Chiefs win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Twice in Butker’s career, he has made a field goal 60+ yards. He had a 62 yard field goal in a 24-20 Chiefs loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 16, 2022, and then made a 60 yard field goal in a 19-8 Chiefs win over the Denver Broncos on October 12, 2023.
To replace Butker, the Chiefs have signed Spencer Shrader of Lithia, Florida off the New York Jets’s practice roster. Shrader is a NFL rookie after playing college football at Notre Dame and South Florida. The Chiefs are the third team Shrader has kicked for this season. He made three converts for the Indianapolis Colts in a 29-27 Colts loss to the Houston Texans on September 8, and made field goals from 25 yards and 45 yards on Sunday in a 31-6 Jets loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
