Charley Hull of Kettering, England has become the third LPGA player to test positive for coronavirus according to Golf Channel on Thursday. Hull’s positive diagnosis of the horrendous disease came prior to the 2020 ANA Inspiration in Rancho Mirage, California, where Hull had arrived to participate for the second major of the women’s golf season, but now cannot participate.

Hull stated she was not well upon arriving to California on Monday. However she initially thought she was impacted by jet lag, the California heat and her asthma. Hull was subsequently tested for coronavirus, and received the positive result on Tuesday. She must now self isolate for the next 10 days.

The state of California has had 751, 747 cases of coronavirus, by far the most cases among all states in the United States. They also have 371,194 active cases, 14,090 deaths, and 366,463 recovered cases. It should also be noted that Hull currently lives in Burton Latimer, England, with her husband, mixed martial artist Ozzie Smith. In Great Britain, there have been 361, 677 cases of coronavirus, 3539 new cases, and 41, 614 deaths. The first two LPGA players to test positive for coronavirus were Gaby Lopez of Mexico and Marina Alex of the United States.

In round two action of the ANA Inspiration on Friday, the current leader is Nelly Korda of the United States at -9. She has a three stroke lead on In Gee Chun and Sei-Young Kim of South Korea. Of the three golfers currently in contention, Chun is the only major winner. She won at the 2015 United States Women’s Open from the Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, and at the 2016 Evian Championship in France.

In other golf news, Sophia Popov of Germany is not at the ANA Inspiration either despite winning the Women’s British Open in August. The reason for the exclusion is because the players participating at Rancho Mirage were the same golfers who had qualified for the tournament when it was initially scheduled in April according to Beth Ann Nichols of Golfweek. The fact that the LPGA did not give an exemption to Popov is ridiculous and an embarrassment to the tour.
