The Los Angeles Chargers have traded safety Desmond King of Detroit, Michigan to the Tennessee Titans for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2021 National Football League Draft on Monday according to Turron Davenport of ESPN. King has spent the last four seasons with the Chargers since being drafted in the fifth round, 151st overall by Los Angeles in the 2017 NFL Draft.
In six games this season with Los Angeles, King started three games and had 24 combined tackles (19 solo tackles and five assisted tackles), one quarterback hit, and one sack. King recorded his lone quarterback hit and sack against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 39-29 Chargers win on October 25, 2020.
In addition to being a safety, King has had great success as a NFL punt returner in his career. He has had 51 career punt returns for 455 yards and two touchdowns, along with 55 career kickoff returns for 1206 yards.
Two years ago, in only his second NFL season, King was a NFL First-Team All-Pro at defensive back. He had 62 combined tackles (47 solo tackles and 15 assisted tackles), four tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, three interceptions for 75 yards, and one touchdown.
King registered his first career touchdown on November 23, 2017. While playing in front of a nationally televised audience on American Thanksgiving, King picked off a Dak Prescott pass and had a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 28-6 Chargers win.
King’s two touchdowns in 2018 also came in Chargers wins. He had a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 25-17 Los Angeles win over the Seattle Seahawks on November 4, 2018, and a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown in a 33-30 Chargers win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 2, 2018.
