According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with wide receiver D.J. Chark of Alexandria, Louisiana to a one-year deal worth $5 million. The Chargers become the fourth National Football League team he has played for. Chark was previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2018 to 2021, the Detroit Lions in 2022, and the Carolina Panthers in 2023.
In 2023 in Carolina, Chark had 35 catches for 525 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Chark’s most notable game actually came in a Panthers loss on Christmas Eve. In a 33-30 Panthers loss to the Green Bay Packers, Chark had six catches for 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Chark’s 98 receiving yards and two major scores were a season-high.
Interestingly, Chark has had two touchdowns in a game four times in a career, and in every time his team has lost. He accomplished the feat the first time with the Jaguars on October 6, 2019, in a 34-27 Jaguars loss to the Panthers. Chark had a monster game in this contest as he had eight catches for 164 receiving yards. He then had eight catches for 104 receiving yards and two major scores in a 33-13 Jaguars loss to the Indianapolis Colts on November 17, 2019, and eight catches for 95 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a 33-25 Jaguars loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on October 4, 2020.
The Chargers are also getting a Pro Bowl receiver. In 2019, Chark had 73 catches for 1008 receiving yards and eight touchdowns with the Jaguars. He also had two rushes (the only two rushes of his NFL career) for 20 rushing yards.
