Carlos Alcaraz wins all-Spanish final in Barcelona

Carlos Alcaraz of El Palmar, Spain is one of tennis’s rising superstars. At the age of 18, what he has been able to accomplish to date has been mighty impressive.
On Sunday, Alcaraz won his third ATP event of 2022, and fourth of his career, after beating two-time United States Open semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the 2022 Barcelona Open. Alacaraz had previously won the 2021 Croatia Open, the 2022 Rio Open, and 2022 Miami Masters.
In the final, Alcaraz was able to win 88% of his first serve points and 82% of his second serve points. Alacraz also broke Carreno Busta four times, while Carreno Busta did not even have a single break point opportunity.
In Barcelona this past week, Alcaraz entered the tournament as the fifth seed. He also beat Soon-woo Kwon of South Korea, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 in the second round, Jaume Munar of Spain, 6-3, 6-3 in the third round, the number one seed and reigning French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, in the quarterfinals, and the 10th seed, Alex de Minaur of Australia, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, in the semi-finals.

Rafael Nadal has completely dominated the Barcelona Open in recent years. The King of Clay has won the tournament a remarkable 12 times. However, he missed this year’s tournament because of a broken rib. According to Liam Llewellyn of the Mirror, Nadal is hoping to be ready for next week’s Madrid Open, a tournament he has won five times.
In other tennis news, Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic married Belgian supermodel Camille Ringoir over the past week at a ceremony in Italy. Raonic has been suffering from an Achilles injury and has not played since the 2021 Atlanta Open last summer. He is best known for reaching the 2016 Wimbledon final, where he lost to Andy Murray.
