Carlos Alcaraz to face Jannik Sinner in 2025 US Open final
September 7, 2025
The two finalists for the 2025 United States Open have been decided. The players in Sunday’s final from Flushing Meadows, New York are the two players we expected to be in the final all along. They are the world number one Jannik Sinner of Italy and the world number two Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.
The bottom line is that Sinner and Alcaraz are in a class by themselves at the moment. They are the hottest rivalry in tennis at this time. They are in the same category as Evert vs. Navratilova, Sampras vs. Agassi, Borg vs. McEnroe, Becker vs. Edberg, and Federer vs. Nadal.
Whenever Sinner is playing Alcaraz at this time, people watch. They have combined to win the last seven grand slam championships. Sinner won the Australian Open and United States Open in 2024, and the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2025. Alcaraz won the French Open in 2024, Wimbledon in 2024, and the French Open in 2025.Â
In Friday’s semifinals, Alcaraz simply clobbered one of the greatest players ever in Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who also had a great rivalry with Federer and Nadal. However, at 38 years of age, Djokovic lost his mojo at certain times during the match. He looked lethargic, and simply lacked the energy required to beat the world number two in a grand slam semi. As a result, Alcaraz came through with a 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 win. Sinner, meanwhile, was tested a little more, but still beat Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
All-time, Alcaraz has played Sinner 14 times already. Alcaraz is victorious on nine occasions.
