Cameron Young wins 2026 Players Championship

Cameron Young of Scarborough, New York has won the 2026 Players Championship from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, outside of Jacksonville. The Players Championship is famous every year because of the purse. By winning the Players, Young is $4.5 million richer.

Young posted a four round score of -13. He had a first round score of four-under-par 68, second round score of five-under-par 67, third round score of even 72, and a fourth round score of four-under-par 68.

It should be noted that Young got into the winner’s circle despite a double bogey. It came on the 18th hole in round three.

Three other golfers were in contention. Matt Fitzpatrick of Sheffield, England, the 2022 United States Open champion, was alone in second place at -12. Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California, the world number seven and two-time major champion (2024 PGA Championship winner and British Open champion), was alone in third place at -11, and Robert MacIntyre of Oban, Scotland was alone in fourth place at -10.

Fitzpatrick actually was tied with Young heading into the 18th hole. However, Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole and allowed Young to win the tournament with a score of par.

In what has turned out to be a theme on the PGA Tour this season, we have seen a golfer who was leading the tournament struggle mightily down the stretch. We saw it from Shane Lowry at the Cognizant, and Daniel Berger at the Arnold Palmer. This past weekend, the golfer who collapsed was Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg. The world number 17 had a three stroke lead heading into the final round, but found the water twice in the fourth round and finished tied for fifth at -9.

This was Young’s second PGA title. The first was at the 2025 Wyndham Championship. With the win at the Players, Young moves to fourth in the world.
