Buccaneers sign LeSean McCoy from the Chiefs
August 1, 2020
One of the best running backs in the last 10 years is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Thursday, the 32-year-old native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania signed with the Bucs to a one-year contract.
Tampa Bay becomes the fourth National Football League team in McCoy’s career. He has previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Last season it was considered a disappointment for McCoy in Kansas City, even though the Chiefs won the Super Bowl and McCoy reconnected with head coach Andy Reid, McCoy’s head coach in Philadelphia. That is because McCoy only had 465 rushing yards, and 181 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and three fumbles. The 646 total yards was the lowest amount in his career. Then in the postseason, McCoy was only on the football field for one snap.
The Buccaneers will now hope McCoy still has some of his magic he has delivered on the football field in the past. Three times he was selected to the Pro Bowl with the Eagles (2011, 2013, and 2014), and then three more times McCoy went to the Pro Bowl with the Bills (2015, 2016, and 2017).
McCoy’s best NFL season came in 2013 with the Eagles. That season he led the NFL with 1607 rushing yards, 100.4 yards per game, and 2146 total yards. He also led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns in 2011.
McCoy is also 22nd all-time in rushing yards with 11,071. In Tampa Bay, McCoy will appear to share time with Ronald Jones II of Fort Stewart, Georgia. At 22 years of age, Jones II should see the majority of the carries from the Tampa Bay backfield. However, he lacks the experience that McCoy brings to the table.
