The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed wide receiver Julio Jones of Foley, Alabama to a one-year deal worth $6 million according to Zach Koons of Sports Illustrated. There is a possibility that Jones could earn as much as $8 million.
The Buccaneers are Jones’s third National Football League franchise. He previously played 10 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and one season with the Tennessee Titans.Â
This past season, Jones had 31 catches for 434 yards and one touchdown with the Titans. His best game came in a 33-30 Tennessee win over the Seattle Seahawks on September 19. Jones had six catches for 128 yards. Jones’s lone touchdown came in a 28-25 Titans win over the Houston Texans on January 9, 2022. It was for three yards and put the Titans up 28-18 at the time.
Jones, who is nicknamed the Jet, has been selected to seven Pro Bowls during his time with the Falcons. He was selected in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2014, Jones led the NFL with 15.2 yards per touch. In 2015, he led the NFL with a career-high 136 receptions, and a career-high 1871 receiving yards, 1871 total yards from scrimmage, 116.9 receiving yards per game, and 13.8 yards per touch. In 2016, Jones led the NFL in receiving yards per game (100.6) for a second straight year. In 2018, he led the NFL in receiving yards (1677), and receiving yards per game (104.8). In 2019, Jones led the NFL with 13.8 yards per touch.
In 145 regular season games, Jones has 879 catches for 13 330 yards and 61 touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how Jones unites with Tom Brady in Tampa after a decade with Matt Ryan and a season with Ryan Tannehill.
