Brooks Koepka withdraws from 2020 U.S. Open due to injuries
September 12, 2020
The best golfer in the world over the last four years has pulled out of the 2020 United States Open. Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida, cited knee and hip injuries as the reasons why he will not be participating in golf’s second major of the year in 2020 according to Ryan Lavner of Golf Channel on Wednesday.
Koepka’s best result in 2020 so far was a second place at the World Golf Championship-Fed Ex St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee. Koepka was in a four-way tie for second at -10 as he posted the same score as Americans Phil Mickelson and Daniel Berger, and England’s Tom Lewis. Justin Thomas of the United States won the second WGC event of the year with a winning score of -13.
The reason why Koepka has generated a significant following among golf fans since 2017 is because of his play at the majors. Koepka won back-to-back United States Open titles in 2017 and 2018, and back-to-back PGA Championship titles in 2018 and 2019. Koepka has also won seven PGA Tour events overall since 2015.

With Koepka out of the mix, some of the top favourites to win the U.S. Open at this time are Americans Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas. Johnson is the FedEx Cup champion, Morikawa won the PGA Championship earlier this summer, and Thomas won the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui, in addition to his win at the WGC. The 2020 U.S. Open will take place from September 17 to 20 from the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York.
