The Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros appear to be both postseason bound. Starting Tuesday in a three game series at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, the Blue Jays will be facing the Astros in a key American League matchup.
Toronto and Houston are both battling for two things at the moment. One is to maintain their lead in their respective division, and the second is a bye to the American League Divisional Series and not having to play in the wildcard round.
The Blue Jays are at 82 wins and 61 losses. They currently lead the second place New York Yankees by two games and the Boston Red Sox by three games in the American League East.
The Astros are at 78 wins and 66 losses. They currently lead the second place Seattle Mariners by two games and the Texas Rangers by three and a half games in the American League West.
Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette of Orlando, Florida has simply had an unbelievable season and has emerged as the number one unrestricted free agent heading into fall free agency. He is third in the Major Leagues with a .311 batting average and leads the entire Major Leagues with 181 hits.
Offensively, it has been a very productive season for Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is third in the American League with a .304 batting average.
Meanwhile, on the mound, we discussed the inconsistencies of closer Jeff Hoffman last week. However, Hoffman is still third in the American League with 30 saves.
