Week 3 was brutal on star players, with Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield, Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson and New York Jets running back Breece Hall also picking up injuries. Out for the season
De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins (torn ACL)
Achane will miss the rest of the 2026 season after tearing his ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL.com reported, citing NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Miami placed him on injured reserve on Monday after head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed the severity of the injury.
It is a major blow for the 0-3 Dolphins. Achane made his first Pro Bowl last season and signed a four-year, US$64 million extension in the off-season. Ollie Gordon II, who ran for 41 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, is next in line, with Jaylen Wright inactive against the Chiefs because of stinger and foot problems, according to NFL.com.
Brian Burns, OLB, New York Giants (torn ACL)
Burns tore his ACL in the fourth quarter of the Giants’ 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans and will have surgery, coach John Harbaugh confirmed, Giants.com reported.
“(He’s) not just a great player, which he is,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, in many ways (he’s) the leader of the defense, I would say, just as a veteran leader and star player, also a worker, out front kind of guy in everything he does.”
Burns had never missed a game as a Giant and set career highs with 16.5 sacks in 2025. Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter will take on a bigger workload. It is a second straight week of major injury news for New York after quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury, and the club has since acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy from Minnesota for a 2027 fifth-round pick, pending a physical, according to the Giants.
The Josh Allen watch
Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills (left knee)
Allen took a hit to his left knee in the fourth quarter of Buffalo’s 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers and was seen limping as he left the field, Sports Illustrated reported. Head coach Joe Brady is not concerned for now.
“Josh is always a little [sore] the day after the game, but I’m never usually concerned about him,” Brady said, according to BuffaloBills.com. The club site noted Brady has not typically given injury specifics at the podium, so the official practice reports will be the next real guide before Buffalo faces Drake Maye and the New England Patriots. Quarterbacks
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (dislocated right thumb) – Out about three weeks. Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Monday that Mayfield will miss three weeks, Yahoo Sports reported, with Jalon Daniels expected to get the first chance to replace him.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders (elbow) – The Commanders say Daniels will be back at practice this week, according to Yahoo Sports, but it remains to be seen whether he is ready for the Colts in Week 4. Marcus Mariota was solid in Washington’s Week 3 upset win over Seattle, Yahoo noted.
Jaxson Dart, New York Giants (knee) – Out for the rest of the regular season at least, according to Giants.com.
Running backs
Breece Hall, New York Jets (quad) – Week-to-week, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, as reported by Yahoo Sports. Braelon Allen would be expected to take the bulk of the work if Hall misses time.
Travis Etienne Jr., New Orleans Saints (hamstring) – Expected to miss some time after leaving the loss to the Raiders, according to Yahoo Sports.
Receivers
Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings (ankle) – NFL Network reported Jefferson has an ankle sprain but imaging was good, according to Yahoo Sports, leaving a chance he plays against Miami on Sunday.
Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams (groin, hip) – Missed a second straight game. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Rams believe he could return in Week 4, according to Yahoo Sports, although surgery remains an option if he does not improve.
Mike Evans, San Francisco 49ers (rib strain) – Day-to-day, NFL Network reported on Monday, according to Yahoo Sports.
Jalen Coker, Carolina Panthers (quad) – Reportedly questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Detroit Lions, Yahoo Sports said.
