The Miami Heat may not be finished reshaping their roster after landing Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Following the blockbuster trade that brought the two-time NBA MVP to South Beach, the Heat are reportedly exploring moves for two decorated veterans as Pat Riley looks to maximise the team’s championship window around Giannis and Bam Adebayo.
Klay Thompson Remains Miami’s Top Target
According to the Miami Herald, the Heat’s top priority is acquiring four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson, with discussions continuing as Miami explores multiple pathways to complete a deal.
Barry Jackson reported:
“Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson, a five-time All-Star and the fourth-most prolific three-point shooter in NBA history, has emerged as a player of strong interest to the Miami Heat.”
ESPN insider Shams Charania also revealed Thompson sits at the top of Miami’s offseason wish list.
“The Miami Heat’s number one priority right now is to acquire shooting. And they found their No. 1 target for that… Klay Thompson.”
However, with Thompson still under contract with Dallas for another season, Miami is reportedly investigating whether a trade or eventual buyout could create an opportunity.
Heat Also Holding Talks With Two Veteran Stars
While Thompson remains the preferred option, the Heat have also opened discussions with veteran free agents Bradley Beal and DeMar DeRozan.
Miami Herald reporter Anthony Chiang wrote:
“Among the free agents currently available who the Heat has already shown some level of interest in are veteran guard Bradley Beal and veteran forward DeMar DeRozan.”
“The Heat has had discussions with the representatives for both players.”
Beal and DeRozan have combined to earn approximately US$645 million during their NBA careers, giving Miami the chance to add proven scoring alongside its new superstar pairing.
Building Around Giannis and Bam
Miami has wasted little time surrounding Antetokounmpo with additional talent after completing one of the biggest trades in franchise history.
The Heat believe pairing Giannis with Bam Adebayo gives them one of the NBA’s most dominant defensive frontcourts, but the front office is equally focused on improving perimeter shooting and half-court scoring. Thompson’s elite three-point shooting would directly address that need, while Beal or DeRozan would provide another proven offensive creator.
Riley Not Finished Yet
Pat Riley has built his reputation on chasing marquee names, and this offseason appears no different.
Although there is no guarantee Miami lands Thompson, Beal or DeRozan, the Heat have made it clear they are not satisfied with their roster despite already pulling off the blockbuster acquisition of Antetokounmpo.
If Riley can secure another established veteran before opening night, Miami’s revamped roster could emerge as one of the biggest threats in the Eastern Conference.
