The Houston Texans are bringing back defensive end Jadeveon Clowney of Rock Hill, South Carolina. The terms of the contract are one year and $5.5 million according to Spotrac on Sunday.
Clowney is returning to the Texans after playing his first five National Football League seasons there from 2014 to 2018. In his last three seasons with the Texans (2016, 2017 and 2018), Clowney was selected to the Pro Bowl. In 62 games over this five year time period, Clowney had 205 combined tackles (151 solo tackles and 54 assisted tackles), 64 tackles for a loss, 67 quarterback hits, 11 pass deflections, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries for 75 yards, two touchdowns from fumble recoveries, and 29 sacks.
In Clowney’s NFL career, he has also played with six other NFL franchises. He was with the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, the Tennessee Titans in 2020, the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022, the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, the Carolina Panthers in 2024, and the Dallas Cowboys in 2025.
This past season with the Cowboys, Clowney had 41 combined tackles (24 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles), 12 tackles for a loss, 10 quarterback hits, four pass deflections, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and 8.5 sacks. In Clowney’s final game as a Cowboy, he had three sacks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble in a 34-17 loss to the New York Giants.
Clowney is the NFL active leader in touchdowns from fumble recoveries in a career with three. Two of the touchdowns were with the Texans and the other with the Seahawks.
