Michael Kim of San Diego, California became the 15th golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to shoot a 59. He accomplished the feat on Friday in the second round of the 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
Kim had 12 birdies and zero bogeys in round two. He birdied the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth, 10th, 12th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes. Kim birdied seven par fours, two par threes, and three par fives.
In round one, Kim shot a score of two-under-par 69. It was remarkable he was 10 strokes better in round two than round one.
Kim is currently the leader of the 3M Open at -14. There are three golfers tied for second place at -11. They are American Chandler Phillips of Huntsville, Texas, American Ben Kohles of Dallas, Texas and Argentina’s Emilio Grillo.
American Jim Furyk of West Chester, Pennsylvania has the lowest score ever on the PGA Tour. He shot a score of 58 in the fourth round of the 2016 Travelers Championship. The last player to post a score of 59 was Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, California, in the first round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Kim is currently ranked 57th in the world. He has one PGA Tour victory. It came at the 2018 John Deere Classic. Kim dominated the field eight years ago as he shot a winning score of -27, and beat his four nearest competitors by eight strokes.
