Every week there are teams in the National Football League who win that are not expected to. In week two there were five underdogs that came through with victories. Let’s take a look at who they were. Please keep in mind that in the game between the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers, the line moved and the Panthers were the pre-game favourite, mostly because of the injuries to the Falcons quarterbacks.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were a 4.5 point underdog against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, and came through a low scoring 9-3 victory. The big story in the game was the fact that Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left the game with a hamstring injury and the Bears offense was terrible in Williams’s absence. It was a strong game offensively for Vikings running back Aaron Jones of Savannah, Georgia. Jones had 105 rushing yards.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns were an 8.5 point underdog on Sunday in a 23-19 Cleveland win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a strong game defensively for Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger of Moorpark, California, as he had 10 tackles.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals improved to 2-0 on the season with a 20-6 win over the Houston Texans. We regularly talk about how bad the Bengals defense is. On Sunday, the Bengals defense were the stars. Linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. of Locust Grove, Georgia led the Bengals with 12 tackles.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are now 1-1 after upsetting the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 as an 8.5 point underdog. Saints quarterback Tyler Shough of Chandler, Arizona had 252 yards passing and the game-winning touchdown on a one-yard run with one minute and 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Las Vegas Raiders
With Kirk Cousins at quarterback, the Las Vegas Raiders are 2-0 to start the season. On Sunday, Cousins had 253 yards passing and three touchdowns as the Raiders defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 as a seven point underdog. Tre Tucker had 119 yards receiving.
