We asked Group 1 winning jockey Blake Spriggs to look over the races from last weekend to find some runners he would want to be on next start and he gave us a list of five below.
Blake has retired from riding after a nasty fall in 2025 and will be using our new black book feature, where you will be able to follow his black book, which means, once you register to the black book below, you will receive notifications when he adds new horses to his black book (with his notes) and another notification when any of his horses are running.

1/5 Why So Hard
There was plenty to like about this Hawkes trained gelding as he is bred to get over 1600m+ and showed his class when winning at his first start over 1100m. He settled midfield and once balanced up, he found the line in dominant fashion and I’m keen to follow at 1200m+ next start.

2/5 Big Red Tequila
Probably pointing out the obvious with this mare but she had no luck for the first half of the race before finishing strongly to run 11.54 for her last 200m.
She will improve second up from her break and I’ll be keen to follow.

3/5 Is It Spectacular
Nacim Dilmi made the decision of gelding this son of Dundeel and it appears to have put his mind on the job as he has now moved to 3 wins from 10 starts and his win over 1500m on Saturday was impressive.

4/5 Decalogue
A simple case of the ride won the race and Chad Schofield backed in this gelding’s staying ability when taking off around the field and the further they went, the stronger he looked. He looks a nice stayer in the making

5/5 Ice Kool
This Zoustar gelding could be something special in the making as he backed up his two strong trials with a dominant win over 1000m on Saturday.
