Bills sign wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling of St. Petersburg, Florida. The terms of the contract are one year and $4.5 million. The contract includes a $1.125 million signing bonus.
The Bills become the third National Football League franchise Valdes-Scantling has played for. He previously played four seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2018 to 2021, and the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and 2023.
In 2023, Valdes-Scantling had 21 catches for 315 receiving yards and one touchdown. The regular season major score came in a 31-17 Chiefs win over the Los Angeles Chargers on October 22. Valdes-Scantling’s touchdown was 46 yards from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. At the time, the Chiefs went up 9-3.
In the postseason, Valdes-Scantling also caught a touchdown pass for 16 yards from Mahomes in the Super Bowl, a 25-22 Chiefs win over the San Francisco 49ers. At the time, the Chiefs took a 13-10 lead with two minutes and 28 seconds left in the third quarter. During Super Bowl LVIII, Valdes-Scantling had three catches for 20 yards. This was the second straight Super Bowl won by Valdes-Scantling while with the Chiefs. In Super Bowl LVII, a 38-35 Chiefs win over the Philadelphia Eagles, he did not have a catch.
While with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling led the NFL with 20.9 yards per catch during the 2020 NFL season. He had 33 catches for 690 receiving yards.
Valdes-Scantling is the second wide receiver the Bills have signed during the month of May. On May 3, they came to terms with Canadian Chase Claypool of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
