The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back tight end Zach Ertz of Orange, California according to the Associated Press on Monday. The reason for the signing is because the Eagles will be without tight end Dallas Goedert of Britton, South Dakota for the next several weeks with a medial collateral ligament sprain that Goedert suffered on Sunday in a 24-20 Eagles win over the Tennessee Titans.
Ertz is only on the Eagles practice squad right now. However one might think based on his experience, it should not take too long before he is on the main roster.
Goeder is actually one of three Eagles tight ends currently injured. The other two are Eli Stowers (hamstring) and Grant Calcaterra (back).
Ertz previously spent nine seasons with the Eagles from 2013 to 2021 and won a Super Bowl in 2018. During his time with the Eagles, he was selected to three straight Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019.
In 123 games with the Eagles, Ertz had 579 receptions for 6267 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns. Hewas then traded from the Eagles to the Arizona Cardinals on October 15, 2021 for a fifth round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and cornerback Tay Gowan of Covington, Georgia. Ertz went on to play three seasons with the Cardinals from 2021 to 2023, before spending the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles won their first two games of the 2026 National Football League season. However, their victories were far from dominant. They beat the Commanders 24-22 on opening weekend, before coming back to beat the Tennessee Titans 24-20 this past Sunday.
There are eight teams this season that have started at two wins and zero losses. Joining the Eagles are the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Las Vegas Raiders.
