Randwick Race 5 –  Harmony Rose

This Newnham trained mare returns after a disappointing 7th in the AJC Oaks where she started favourite in the autumn. What we learned there was that she is not a 2400m horse. She was fantastic against the colts when she finished 3rd behind Lion’s Roar and Mo’unga in the G1 Randwick Guineas 2 starts earlier.

She has a lot in her favour here where she begins her Epsom campaign with only 53kg on her back. Her 1st up stats read 2:2-0-0 and her soft track form reads the same. She meets Epsom 2nd favourite Private Eye 4.5kg better at the weights so connections would be expecting her to run well under these conditions if she’s going to be a chance in her grand final.

She returned to training with two trials and the second outing suggested she is in good knick when Rachel King sat wide the whole way and didn’t let her go up the straight but she still cruised to the line under a hold to finish 4th behind Entriviere.

Randwick Race 6 – Mallory

Mallory has been desperately unlucky in her two runs in the princess series this campaign. 1st up she sat back in the field and ran into trouble the whole way up the straight and should’ve finished much closer than 1.8L away in 5th.

2nd up she sat 3 wide without cover back in the field and was still strong through the line to finish 0.8L in 3rd. Impressive winner Jamaea will not line up in this field and she finished off stronger than race favourites Four Moves Ahead and She’s All Class despite her wide run.

1400m looks perfect!

Randwick Race 8 – Nature Strip

Nature Strip is often a polarising sprinter that has been suspect to turning in shockers in the past but the Waller gelding looks to be a new horse now that he is settling in his races which he may have to do with the speedy Eduardo engaged here. He was flawless in the Concorde over 1000m and looks to stamp dominant favouritism on the Everest.

Masked Crusader looks to be the main danger and if a 3rd horse engages in a speed battle up front and sets it up for something from behind he could be the one.
