Bernhard Langer sets Champions Tour record with 46 wins
July 5, 2023
Bernard Langer continues to perform at a high level on the Champions Tour in men’s golf. On Sunday the native of Anhausen, Germany won the 2023 United States Senior Open in Stevens Point, Wisconsin by two strokes over Steve Stricker of Edgerton, Wisconsin. In taking the title, Langer won his 46th Champions Tour event, which is the most ever. Langer has one more title than Hale Irwin of Joplin, Missouri, who has 45 Champions Tour events.
Langer posted a four-round score of -7. He had a first round score of par 71, a second round score of three-under-par 68, a third round score of three-under-par 68, and a fourth round score of one-under-par 70. Only one other golfer was in contention. Jerry Kelly of Madison, Wisconsin was in third place with a score of -4.
This was the second significant Champions Tour record Langer has broken in the last two years. On October 24, 2021, he became the oldest player ever to win a Champions Tour event at the age of 64 years, one month, and 27 days when he won the Dominion Energy Charity Classic from Richmond, Virginia. Langer was 65 years, 10 months and seven days when he won on Sunday.
Of Langer’s 46 Champions Tour event titles, 12 were majors. He won the 2010, 2014, 2017, and 2019 British Open, the 2010 and 2023 United States Senior Open, the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Seniors Players Championships, the 2016 and 2017 Regions Traditions and the 2017 Senior PGA Championship. Langer’s 12 Champions Tour titles are the most ever. What is equally as fascinating is the fact that Langer’s United States Open Seniors title was his first win of that major in 13 years.
Langer became the second golfer to win a Champions Tour event in 2023. Stricker won the Tradition and Seniors PGA Championship in May.
