The Cincinnati Bengals traded defensive end Carlos Dunlap of North Charleston, South Carolina to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday according to Ben Baby of ESPN. In exchange, the Bengals received center B.J. Finney of Wichita, Kansas, and a seventh round draft pick in the 2021 National Football League Draft.
Dunlap, a two-time Pro Bowler from 2015 and 2016, comes to the Seahawks as one of the best defensive ends in the history of the Bengals. With 82.5 sacks with Cincinnati from 2010 to 2020, he was Cincinnati’s all-time sack leader. In 155 games all with the Bengals, Dunlap had 490 combined tackles (328 solo tackles and 162 assisted tackles), 227 quarterback hits, 103 tackles for a loss, nine fumble recoveries for 100 yards, 60 pass deflections, 20 forced fumbles, two interceptions for 30 yards and three touchdowns.
Two of Dunlap’s three touchdowns came from interceptions and the other touchdown from a fumble. In all three games where Dunlap had a touchdown, the Bengals won. On October 16, 2011, Dunlap had a 35 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in a 27-17 Bengals win over the Indianapolis Colts. On December 30, 2012, Dunlap had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 23-17 Bengals win over the Baltimore Ravens. Then on October 29, 2017, Dunlop had his second career touchdown against Indianapolis as he had a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 24-23 Bengals win.
Finney meanwhile returns to the AFC North. Prior to playing six games this season with the Seahawks, he played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The fact that Seattle tried to upgrade their defense came as no surprise. Seattle has been much more effective this season with the football than without.
The Seahawks currently lead the NFC West with a record of five wins and one loss. The Bengals are last in the NFC North with a record of one win, five losses and one tie.
