Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 4th September

Tough little meeting to assess at Belmont here with a distinct lack of value on the card with a lot of short-priced elects where prices have been whittled away at over the past few days. Some dry weather has left us on a soft 6 with no rain expected throughout the day.

Race 4 – 1:57PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

5. Roman Flirt – 8. Special View – 7. Seminole Brave – 3. Phoneme

Roman Flirt

Have a lot of time for Roman Flirt and have always thought he’d eventually be winning Saturday races and this looks a really nice kick-off point to do just that. Really strong win at Northam in a Class 5 last start when giving weight to, and sprinting past, the sharp Lonehand Larry who’s form you can tie in with impressive last Saturday winner Kaptain Kaos. Drawn perfectly, Pike can settle her just in behind the front pair with a smother and the rise up to the mile 3rd up suits her to a tee.
There’s a lot of dour sort of stayers resuming in this field, and the main danger one who I feel is far less effective (although not hopeless) on a softer deck, the Pearce brothers have really got their tails up with the stable flying over the past sort of 10 days and Roman Flirt can definitely give them another to add to the tally. I think there’ll be some money around for a couple of other runners here and was hoping for something north of $2.60 which we aren’t seeing currently, but patience is a virtue and confident you’ll see better on the day.

3.5 Units WIN @ $2.60+ SP

Race 5 – 2:37PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. Campese – 7. Glamour Packed – 1. Ohbeeh – 5. Lonehand Larry

Race 6 – 3:20PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. La Farola – 5. No Apology – 8. Diablerie – 1. Kelly’s Callisto

La Farola

Could be a big day for the Lane stable but La Farola is probably the one that stands out the most for me. Looked just about home and hosed first up before the big, striding Notorious One found some room and gunned her down late, bearing in mind those two put a fair space on the rest of them
Parnham back on is a big positive, as is the map. Looks to be a really genuine tempo here with horses the likes of Kelly’s Callisto, Harry Thomas and Magniforce who only know one way, Chris should be able to just smother her up in behind them, her condition fresh might’ve just peaked a little late on there and with that added race fitness under her belt and a plum run in transit I just don’t think there’s anything in this field that can go with her late that will hold as tactical a field position with some other sharp types more than likely going to be right out the back. This looks another nice investment on a relatively tough early card to delve through.

4 Units WIN

Race 7 – 3:55PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

1. Born To Try – 2. Picture Perfect – 10. Sugar Cain – 8. Blaiszen Cazah

Race 8 – 4:30PM JOLLY BEGGAR STAKES (1000 METRES)

8. Iseered Iseered – 3. Don’t Fuss – 5. Jericho Missile – 4. Son Of A God

Race 9 – 5:10PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Mood Swings – 2. Our Boy Dylan – 11. Mystical View – 12. Spin The Knife

Mood Swings

Really open 1000m scamper to end the day but at the price can’t let Mood Swings go around without having something on. Has run some figures fresh that can be easily good enough to win this and should lob in the 1-1 from the map if Olga Louisa kicks up like I expect her to to sit outside Spin The Knife. Has the best exposed form in this around the likes of River Beau and with a few question marks surrounding some other fancied runners, I’m happy to be on each way and get our money back if he runs into the placings.
