Avdulla fined $4000

Group 1 jockey Brenton Avdulla was fined $4000 for a celebratory gesture at Royal Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
Avdulla rode Fireburn to victory in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires Produce Stakes (1400m), breezing to the line.
“My waving was more directed at Anthony as he said during the week that he felt She’s Extreme should have won the Golden Slipper – I thought he was kidding himself,’’ Avdulla said.
“So I was sort of saying ‘c’mon, come with me’. This filly is a superstar.
“It takes a very good horse to do what Fireburn did in the Golden Slipper and then back that up today.’’
The Golden Slipper-winning Fireburn was in a commanding leading heading into the final 100 metres and Avdulla decided to gesture for his competitors to keep up. It has drawn widespread attention with some claiming it was tasteless.
Avdulla highlighted She’s Extreme’s trainer Anthony Cumming’s as the reason behind the gesture. It was following comments by Cummings who claimed She’s Extreme should have beaten Fireburn in the Golden Slipper.
