The matchup will be fascinating because Australia and the United States have a rich Davis Cup history. Australia and the United States have won a combined 60 Davis Cups. The United States have won the most ever (32), with Australia second on the list with 28. However, it has been a while since the United States and Australia have won their last Davis Cup. Australia last won in 2003, and the United States last won in 2007.
This will be the 48th time that the United States will have played Australia in Davis Cup action. The United States has the 26-21 advantage all-time. However, it should be noted the first 10 times the United States faced Australia in Davis Cup action, Australia and New Zealand joined forces and were known as Australasia. The United States won five times and Australasia won five times. So, in essence, the United States have faced just Australia at the Davis Cup 37 times, with the United States winning 21 times, and Australia winning 16.
Australia qualified for the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup by finishing in second place in Group B behind Spain.
