Ascot Tip Sheet & Staking Plan – Saturday 16th January

Miss Andretti Stakes day at Ascot this Saturday, rail goes out the 5m which should in turn with the big easterly forecast play into those hands of those on-pace earlier in the card.

Last Of The Line
Was the run of the meeting last Saturday and really keen Last Of The Line can take out race 3 here. Is on the quick back up here but has won off the quick back-up during his 1st preparation and maps to get a really lovely run from barrier 2 here on the back of the leader, gets in on the bottom weight and Hill just needs some room in the straight to be taking this out I think. Really like this horse, knows how to win and wouldn’t be surprised if much stronger races are on the cards for him in the near future. Has trimmed right up and is skinny at the $2.20 currently but should be backable around $2.50-$2.70 on the day I suspect if you play late.
3 Units WIN IF $2.50+ late, Betfair your best chance.

Race 4 – 2:50PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1400m)

1. The Fugazi – 7. Bruce Almighty – 5. Giant Leap – 9. Seminole Brave

Two horses have come up over my price here in a market dominated by the raging cerise and white favourite Giant Leap.
The Fugazi
Back to 1400m is a much more suitable assignment for The Fugazi who probably finds his most winnable race in some time here. Has been racing in much stronger races than this and ran 2nd only 3 starts ago over the 1400m in a 72+ behind Lorentinio. Before that was only 3 lengths of G1 winner Truly Great which are far and above the best form references for this. Gets some weight to carry back into a 60+ but maps beautifully again here to just sit in the 1-1 behind the speed and should be fighting it out at the end.
1.2 Units WIN

Bruce Almighty
Returned to form last start in with a really nice run in the Mandurah Cup when finishing 3rd behind Peppijack and Skinnen Tins. Draws really nicely in 1 here with the big easterly in play to just box-seat on the fence in behind the leader with Parnham in the saddle. Has shown in the past that when he finds some form he usually holds it and should be every mortal hope from the run he will get in transit behind what looks to be a moderate speed. 4th up, hard fit now, ready for a prep peak performance.
0.8 Units WIN
Giant Leap went gigantic 1st up over the 1000m when truck-loaded despite what looked a really ugly map in betting. Rises straight to the 1400m here so Bob must think he’s going pretty fkn well. The horse leaves the machines well, and definitely doesn’t necessarily have to drop back in this field but from 7 the map looks sticky and with the potential of being parked deep. $2.10 is way unders. Is definitely brilliant enough to win, just can’t have at that sort of thin price and am betting around, probably to my detriment.

Race 5 – 3:30PM SCHWEPPES PLATE (1200m)
5. Magical Dream – 11. Hot Mix – 10. Devine Beast – 6. Keep Your Feet
Race 6 – 4:00PM CROWN SPORTS BAR HANDICAP (2200m)
7. Defiantly – 2. Lonsdale Lady – 8. Frosty Heart – 1. Ouqba Ted
Not usually one to play in the 2200m races but think there is a 2 horse play here who both come from the same race.
Defiantly
This horse is deadbeat bloody flying for Gary Delane. Stepped up into easily his biggest test last start in the G3 La Trice dropping back in trip over the 1800m, trucked up 3 deep no cover the trip, looked a shot duck at the top of the straight but really picked up again and hit the line hard late alongside Lonsdale Lady. Gets back out to the staying trip which she cantered in over 2 starts back in a 60+ when gunning down a tearaway leader with ease late in the piece. Has a great relationship with Warwick and from the economical draw back up to a staying trip, I think she is going to be very hard to beat.
1.25 Unit WIN
Lonsdale Lady
Comes out of the same race as Defiantly the La Trice, where she drew wide again, was slowly away, settled back at the rear and was held up badly on straightening, before wobbling out off heels and really hitting the line well late. I just hope with the jockey change that Jade sends her forward and tries to post her up closer to the speed here because gut feel she will really lap up the staying trip in a race devoid of any real genuine tactical speed.
0.75 Units WIN
Wary of Frosty Heart, who I think can run a big race at $26.00 out to a staying trip for the 1st time this prep.

Race 7 – 4:35PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1000m)
5. Time To Sizzle – 4. Prince Devoutly – 6. Cockyjoy – 1. Weaponson
Race 8 – 5:15PM MISS ANDRETTI STAKES (1100m)
3. Indian Pacific – 2. Flirtini – 5. Carocapo – 6. Essential Spice
Race 9 – 5:50PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1800m)
6. Naughty By Nature – 10. Aberdeen Queen – 12. Crystal Valley – 7. Mr Kunafa
