Arthur Fery, the French-born Englishman who was raised in Wimbledon, has become the top story of Wimbledon in 2026. Fery, the 114th ranked player in the world, is now in the quarterfinals.
Fery was one of the British wildcards leading up to the tournament. However, there were some expectations he might have a good tournament because of his impressive performance at Queens. At the HSBC Championships in London, England in the middle of June, Fery reached the quarterfinals. He clobbered fellow Brit Toby Samuel 6-0, 6-2 in the first round, and then Adrian Mannarino of France 7-6, 6-4 in the second round.
At Wimbledon, Fery has reached the quarterfinals without having to beat a single seeded opponent. He defeated Damir Dzhumur of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round, Otto Virtanen of Finland, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round, Zizou Bergs of Belgium, 2-6, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the third round, and three-time grand slam semifinalist and fellow wildcard, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the fourth round. Dimitrov reached the semifinals of 2014 Wimbledon, the 2017 Australian Open, and the 2019 United States Open, and at one time was ranked as high as third in the world.
Next up for Fery is French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli of Italy. Cobolli, the ninth seed, actually lost to Fery in their only meeting head-to-head. That came in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open, which Fery won 7-6, 6-4, 6-1.
