Allisen Corpuz and Angel Yin lead after round 3 of 2023 Chevron Championship
April 24, 2023

There is a two-way tie for the lead after the third round of the 2023 Chevron Championship in The Woodlands, Texas, just outside of Houston. At -10 are Americans Angel Yin and Allisen Corpuz. Yin of Monterey Park, California, and Corpuz of Honolulu, Hawaii, are looking for their first major title.
In fact, Corpuz and Yin have not won on the LPGA Tour before. Yin was victorious at the 2017 Omega Dubai Ladies Classic as part of the Ladies European Tour. Corpuz was the 2014 Hawaiian State Open champion.
In round three Corpuz got off to a phenomenal start. She birdied the first three holes to go from -5 to -8, and then birdied the fifth and 13th holes to get into double digits.
Yin meanwhile got a bounce for the ages on the 12th hole. The ball from her tee shot went into the water, but somehow and someway, bounced out. I have been watching golf regularly for 25 years, and never have I seen anything like that! On Saturday, Yin had six birdies and one bogey. She birdied the first, fifth, 11th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the fourth hole.
Meanwhile there are eight more golfers in contention, and are looking to catch and pass Corpuz and Yin. Amy Yang of South Korea, Megan Khang of Brockton, Massachusetts, and Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland are tied for third place and one stroke back at -9. At -8 are Koreans A Lim Kim, Hye-Jin Choi and Hyo Joo Kim, and Nelly Korda of Bradenton, Florida. Of the four golfers two strokes back are three major champions. Hyo Joo Kim won the 2014 Evian Championship, A Lim Kim won the 2020 United States Women’s Open, and Korda won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand is three strokes back at -7.
