AFL Round 17: Our Insights & Selections

Our analyst is back for another week of AFL and has found some selections for you to follow.

RICHMOND $1.77 v SYDNEY $2.05 – Thursday 7.20pm MCG

Two down the ladder teams meet in a match where at the finish just one will still have a chance to make the eight. Sydney blew it against the Cats but played well at their last match while Richmond were woeful against the Lions. This match could go either way. Sydney look better value.

WESTERN BULLDOGS $2.55 v COLLINGWOOD $1.52 – Friday, 7.50pm Marvel Stadium

The Western Bulldogs have returned to form at their past two matches and get to play Collingwood with Brayden Maynard and Brody Mihocek. The last time these two teams met at Docklands as Round 9 last year when the Bulldogs won by 48 points. They seem over the odds.

BRISBANE $1.01 v WEST COAST $26 – Saturday, 1.45pm Gabba

This shapes as a massacre. Although the Eagles played much better against the Saints at home last week they are taking on the Lions who have their tails up. At their last match they thrashed Richmond by 71 points. The last time these two teams played the Lions won by 75 points.

• The Bet: Brisbane -81.5 points $1.90

GWS GIANTS $1.20 v HAWTHORN $4.50 – Saturday, 4.35pm Giants Stadium

The Giants have been stealthily tip toeing up the ladder in recent weeks. They have won four of their past five matches and should have won the other one. They play the Hawks who have struggled since James Sicily was suspended.

• The Bet: -29.5 points $1.90

ST KILDA $2.80 v MELBOURNE $1.44 – Saturday, 7.25pm Marvel Stadium

These two teams sit fourth and fifth on the ladder but both teams are right out of form. Luckily one of them will go away with a win. Melbourne have been beaten by two in-form teams recently and have been competitive. They lose Bailey Fritsch which is a huge loss. Melbourne have won their past three matches against the Saints.

• The Bet: Tribet 15 points either way $2.75

PORT ADELAIDE $1.18 v GOLD COAST SUNS $4.80 – Saturday 7.40pm Adelaide Oval

Port Adelaide managed to keep their winning run going with a win after the siren to take their tally to 12 wins in a row. The Suns were terrible against Collingwood. Their pattern is that when they play a shocker they respond the next week. Last year when they played the Power won by two points. This should be tighter than expected.

• The Bet: Gold Coast +29.5 points at$1.90

GEELONG CATS $1.06 v NORTH MELBOURNE $9 – 1.10pm Sunday, GMHBA Stadium

The Cats should have little trouble getting four points here. The Roos are in dreadful form having lost their past 15 matches. Last time they met at this venue last year Geelong won by 112 points,

• The Bet: Geelong -48.5 points at $1.90

ESSENDON $1.83 v ADELAIDE CROWS $1.97 – 3.20pm Sunday, Marvel Stadium

This promises to be an interesting game with the battle of seventh and eighth. The Bombers love Docklands while Adelaide’s record away from home isn’t great. That probably gives Essendon the advantage.

FREMANTLE $1.72 v CARLTON $2.10 – 4.40pm Sunday, Optus Stadium

The Blues have hot form winning their past two matches easily against the Suns and the Hawks. This is a sterner test but the Dockers also aren’t in great form. They were disappointing against the Western Bulldogs but they easily defeated Essendon at their last home match.

• The Bet: Either team 15 points or under $2.65
