A Melbourne-based AFL club is facing an off-season crisis after several players were hospitalised overnight following complications from alleged recreational drug use, 7NEWS reported on Sunday.
According to 7NEWS, the players were understood to have been partying at a teammate’s house on Saturday night. The outlet said it believed at least three players required emergency medical care.
SEN also reported the hospital admissions, attributing the detail to 7NEWS, and said more information was expected.
7NEWS said the players are currently on leave from their club. Neither outlet named the club or the players involved. 7NEWS said the club had been contacted for comment.
No AFL statement confirming an investigation, illicit-drugs policy process, or sanctions had been published at the time of writing. Hospital treatment after alleged drug use is not the same as a positive test, a charge, or a finding of wrongdoing.

The report landed while the AFL trade period continues, with clubs still negotiating player movement before Wednesday’s deadline. Separately, Google Trends Australia was showing elevated search interest around AFL drugs on Sunday afternoon.
TSB will update this story if the club, the AFL or a named outlet confirms further detail. Until then, the only established public record is what 7NEWS and SEN have attributed: hospital admissions linked to alleged recreational drug use at a teammate’s house, with the club unnamed and yet to comment on the record.
