76ers and Bucks stay alive in their first round series

The NBA playoffs continued on Tuesday, with the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks surviving another night. The 76ers were in a tight battle with the New York Knicks before winning 112-106 in overtime, while the Bucks clobbered the Indiana Pacers 115-92. Even with the wins, the 76ers and Bucks still trail their respective series three games to two.

In Philadelphia’s win over Milwaukee, the 76ers star was point guard Tyrese Maxey of Dallas, Texas, the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year. Maxey had the best playoff game of his career, as he scored 46 points. He made 17 of 30 field goals, seven of 12 three-point shots, and five of eight free throws. Maxey also had nine assists and five rebounds. Maxey’s most significant shot was a 35-foot jumper from downtown, which tied the score at 97 at the time. Maxey did not finish there. He made another three-pointer in overtime, which was instrumental in the Philadelphia win.

Four 76ers had double-digits in points. Power forward Tobias Harris of Islip, New York, and center Joel Embiid of Yaounde, Cameroon had 19 points each, while shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana had 14 points. Embiid had his first career postseason triple double, as he had 19 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists.

Milwaukee meanwhile dominated the second and third quarters. They outscored the Pacers 30-17 in the second quarter, and 34-19 in the third quarter. All five Bucks starters reached double figures in points. Small forward Khris Middleton of Charleston, South Carolina and power forward Bobby Portis Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas had 29 points each. Shooting guard Malik Beasley of Atlanta, Georgia had 18 points, point guard Patrick Beverley of Chicago, Illinois had 13 points, and center Brook Lopez of North Hollywood, California had 12 points. Middleton, Beverley and Portis Jr. had double-doubles. Middleton had 12 rebounds, Portis Jr. had 10 rebounds and Beverley had 12 assists.

The Bucks also forced a game six without Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Antetokounmpo has a calf injury, and Lillard has right Achilles tendinitis.
