49ers trade Kwon Alexander to Saints
November 5, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have traded linebacker Kwon Alexander to the New Orleans Saints according to Rotoworld on Monday. In exchange, the 49ers received linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional fifth-round draft pick in the National Football League Draft.
The draft pick component is where the trade gets rather interesting. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the year of the draft pick the 49ers receive will depend on the number of games Alexander plays with the Saints. What we know right now is that it will be either a fifth-round draft pick in the 2021 or 2022 NFL Draft.
Alexander is a 26-year-old native of Oxford, Alabama. The Saints become Alexander’s third team as he has also played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This season in five games with the 49ers, Alexander had 30 combined tackles (22 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, one sack, and one forced fumble.
While with the Buccaneers in 2016, Alexander led the NFL with 108 solo tackles. The following season in 2017, Alexander was selected to the Pro Bowl. That year he had 97 combined tackles (70 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles), seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, three interceptions for 70 yards, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
Alonso of Newton, Massachusetts, will be joining his fifth NFL franchise. In addition to the Saints, he has played for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, and Miami Dolphins. However, there is a question when Alonso will be able to play for San Francisco. That is because Alonso injured his anterior cruciate ligament in the Saints’ postseason game last year against the Minnesota Vikings, and has not played so far this season as a result.
