2026 Roman Consul Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said

- The Sporting Base 2026 Roman Consul Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said Image
Satono Glow and Zac Lloyd beat the colts in the Group 2 TAB Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, running down Steel Will by 1½ lengths with Why So Hard third. Here’s what the jockeys said.

It is always important to hear what the jockeys say after the race, as you can forgive a horse’s bad run or even find a winner next start, so head to the post-race comments below.

PHILLIP ISLAND (Dylan Gibbons) – 10th

He couldn’t have done more wrong if he tried.

BLESSED EAGLE (Chad Schofield) – 9th

He might have come to the end of his prep.

OUR EMPEROR (Regan Bayliss) – 8th

He will be third up next start. I think you will see massive improvement when he can get into a race he can control out in front.

CASTILLO KING (Tommy Berry) – 7th

It’s been his whole preparation. Tough run from the gate and that stopped him from running on.

THE MACHINE GUN (Tim Clark) – 6th

I thought from where she drew and where he was in the run, he couldn’t have done too much more from that position. Really good late.

PEYTON (Kerrin McEvoy) – 5th

Good run. Behaved and did everything right. Travelled nicely throughout and gave a kick. Levelled out the last little bit. His fitness will sharpen up with the run.

PARADOXIUM (Jason Collett) – 4th

He just wanted to do it too strong. Comfortable enough in the rhythm he was in. I probably wanted a softer lead. He was just going too quick.

WHY SO HARD (Tyler Schiller) – 3rd

He was terrific. For a horse wanting a bit further, I thought he was very electric today. First up a great run. Couldn’t ask for more.

STEEL WILL (Nash Rawiller) – 2nd

He was good. I was keen to let that early speed go. He hit the line terrifically. Nice horse.

SATONO GLOW (Zac Lloyd) – 1st

She is pretty smart. As you see in the Mounting Yard and after the race, so professional, knows her job. It is half the battle. The other half is ability and she has a lot of it.

I was yes. At the pace they went, I was able to get into a spot. I thought if I could get her, I could win. Obviously it is hard coming the widest around Rosehill and picking up pretty good horses like Paradoxium but once I bought her out, picked her up, she was coming pretty quick.
