2026 Alan Brown Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said

Formal Display and Kerrin McEvoy scored at $26 in the Group 3 Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill, beating Estadio Mestalla by a long neck with Linebacker third. Here’s what the jockeys said.

It is always important to hear what the jockeys say after the race, as you can forgive a horse’s bad run or even find a winner next start, so head to the post-race comments below.

SEPALS (Jamie Mott) – 15th

Disappointing. He slipped out of the barriers but never travelled. Very much below his best today.

ROBUSTO (Tommy Berry) – 14th

Ended up finding the fence from 17. That was good but never got any luck in the straight.

SANDPAPER (Jason Collett) – 13th

Pretty disappointing. Didn’t show a great deal of fight. He did have to work to get outside lead. Didn’t show a great deal.

SIXTIES (Reece Jones) – 12th

Didn’t let down for me today.

ALTHOFF (Siena Grima) – 11th

Very happy with his run. Hot tempo for him. Just couldn’t get the runs when he needed them. Hit the line well.

OSIPENKO (Andrew Adkins) – 10th

He was really good. First up he was brilliant. Obviously going to get further. Confidence building run for him in a tough field.

HEADLEY GRANGE (Adam Hyeronimus) – 9th

Just had no luck.

FEDERALIST (Tyler Schiller) – 8th

Great run. Blew the start but ran on super.

GRINGOTTS (Nash Rawiller) – 7th

Couldn’t find a spot early. Horse was gallant with the big weight.

BRAVE ONE (Dylan Gibbons) – 6th

Gutsy effort from the wide draw. Obviously was a 100-1 but was a massive effort.

GENERAL SALUTE (Tim Clark) – 5th

He ran well. Did think with the run he had, when he presented, he was going to really put himself into the finish but wasn’t beaten too far. Gallant.

MAGNATEAR (Ashley Morgan) – 4th

He was terrific. Really honest. Raced really well. I thought I was going to go and win the race. All roads to the Big Dance. Going well.

LINEBACKER (Zac Lloyd) – 3rd

Very happy with him. Tracking along nicely for the Five Diamonds.

ESTADIO MESTALLA (Chad Schofield) – 2nd

Great run. He’s an elderly horse but going as well as ever.

FORMAL DISPLAY (Kerrin McEvoy) – 1st

First time on him. Annabel and Rob said he was in nice form. Had improved from that first up run. They gave me a blank canvas. Leave it up to you. I said to the guys beforehand I could be anywhere from first four to 6th, 7th, 8th. He was in good form going around nice and bright. Stepped really well. So we were able to burn across. He got a bit of a cheap spot down the side, filled his lungs up and away he went.

He had to do a little bit of work to get across. I played it by ear on how he stepped away. It was good to go out there with an open and it worked in my favour.

I haven’t had a winner in these colours for a while (old Redzel).
